Another week, another rookie making waves on the PBA Tour. At this rate, the veteran players might need to start a support group. Meanwhile, we've been busy adding 50 new alleys to BAiO — including some absolute gems you need to know about.
🎳 On the Lanes
The rookie takeover continues at the Surfside PBA New York Classic, where Austin Grammar and Riley Woodard punched their tickets to Sunday's stepladder finals. If either wins, they'd become the third rookie champion this season — something that's never happened before in PBA history. Grammar earned the top seed after an impressive run through match play, while Woodard joins him alongside veteran major champions Patrick Dombrowski, Kris Prather, and Chris Via. The finals air Sunday at 1 p.m. ET on The CW.
This follows Spencer Robarge's breakthrough victory last week at the Pilgrim's PBA Ohio Classic, where he defeated Chris Via, Packy Hanrahan, and top seed Ryan Barnes for his first PBA title. The rookie class of 2026 is absolutely stacked — Brandon Bonta started the season with a perfect 300 game to win the Players Championship, and now we've got two more first-year players ready to add hardware.
📣 Industry News
USBC named their 2026 Youth Ambassadors of the Year: Sarah Legoo of Illinois and Gavin Connell of New York. Both receive $1,500 scholarships for their outstanding academic achievements and community service. It's always great to see young bowlers getting recognized for excellence both on and off the lanes.
Meanwhile, the USBC Open Championships continue rolling in Reno, where Robert Oakleaf Jr. of Kentucky is making headlines with an 816 series that includes a perfect 300. The 21-year-old two-hander needed clutch strikes in the final frame to secure leads in both Regular Singles and Regular All-Events. Tournament bowling at its finest.
🛒 New Gear
Quiet week on the gear front — nothing major dropped. Though we did spot mention of Jason Belmonte debuting something called the "Storm Belmo Rocket AI" at a recent tournament, but details are still fuzzy on that mystery release.
📍 New on BAiO
We had a massive week adding 50 new alleys to the database! Ohio dominated the additions with spots like RollHouse Mentor in Mentor, Pins Mechanical Co. in Cincinnati, Strike Club Bowling in Shaker Heights, Spins Bowl Kent, and Fairview Lanes in Fairview Park.
We also launched two new city guides this week: Best Bowling in Jacksonville, FL and Best Bowling in Columbus, OH. Whether you're planning a Florida vacation or exploring Ohio's capital, we've got you covered.
📊 Stat of the Week
Pawnee Lanes in Bedford, OH takes the crown as our top-rated new addition this week. With a stellar 4.8/5 Google rating backed by 82 reviews, this place isn't just riding on a few good nights — bowlers consistently love what they're getting. When you see ratings that high with decent review volume, you know you've found something special.
